Obituary of Carmina Greggio

With sadness, the family of Carmela (Luciani) Greggio wish to announce her passing on May 6th at Royal Rose Place, Welland On. She joins her predeceased husband of 19 years, Florino Greggio (1986), her parents Rosario Luciani (1933) & Maria-Domenica D’Onofrio (1987). Reunited with siblings,  Antoniette (1927), Angelo (2008), Clementina Belvedere (2010); Sisters- in-law, Giovina Luciani (2012); Anna-Eileen (Anthony) Barbetta; Gladys (Carm) Sciortoni; Isabel (Emil) Szabo and Giovina Cliolfi,  along with Brothers-in-law Tony (Beverly); Eddie (Jeanette); William; Carmine Belvedere (2018). She is survived by Albert (Delma) Greggio; Jenny (late Raymond) Lallouet and Mary D’Amico (late Dominic) and by nieces and nephews in Canada, Marie Vanderlaan (Jack); Lucy Belvedere; Lina Van Esch (Mike); Ralph Belvedere (late Laverne 2013) & John Belvedere.  Predeceased by niece, Mary (Russ) Little and nephew Nicola (Nicolina D’Alessandro) Luciani of Italy. Carmela is also survived by many great-nephews and nieces in Canada and Italy.

Carmela was born in Castropignano, Campobasso in 1933, arriving in Canada with her mother in 1959. She spent her first years working in the fruit fields of the Niagara region, followed by nearly 30 years at Sunbeam Shoe Factory and lastly Port Colborne Poultry before retiring. Carmela’s home was surrounded by a large vegetable garden & a bounty of flowers that she lovingly tended. Carmela took pride in her canning, preserves, wine making, baking & knitting, always sharing with her family and friends. She was cheerful, friendly & always out and about. Love and thanks to all her family & friends who visited & shared time with Carmela at Portal Village & Royal Rose Place. Gratitude to her dedicated caregivers, as well as the kind representatives of Port Cares and helpful neighbors.

The family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Vigil prayers will be recited in the funeral home on friday at 3:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Walton as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.
