Obituary of Bette Jean Kalailieff

Passed away peacefully after a short struggle on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Welland Hospital at the age of 87.

Much loved wife for 68 years of Ed and loving mother of Ted (Donna) and Dawn (late John) Ruiter. Devoted Nana of Taylor (Dawn), Rebecca (Tom) Scarlett and Joshua (Joanna) and dear Great Nana of Emma, Jacob, Ella, Andrew and Owen. She will be missed by her brothers Bill and Doug Hannell and Hugh Dempsie, the entire Kalailieff family and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Predeceased by her sister Shirley.

Bette was active in softball where she held many positions from a local to international level. She was the founder of the Port Colborne Comettes and Port Colborne Minor Girls Softball, and instrumental in establishing the Port Colborne Festival of the Arts. Bette was the longtime Business Manager of the Port Colborne Operatic Society for over 50 years.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Bette’s family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held at St. James and St. Brendan’s Anglican Church, 55 Charlotte Street, Port Colborne on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. There will be a private family interment of cremated remains at a later date. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Port Colborne Festival of the Arts or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
